An actress in the popular Netflix movie “Marriage Story” claims she had to be hospitalized after suffering severe bed bug bites on a Princess Cruises voyage over Thanksgiving weekend in 2018.

Connie Flores, who had a small role in the movie that stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, filed a lawsuit against the cruise line, owned by Miami-based Carnival Corp., in federal court in Los Angeles.

The couple said their stateroom aboard the Emerald Princess was infested with hundreds of bed bugs during a seven-day cruise from Los Angeles to Mexico they took to celebrate their anniversary.

“The bed bugs latched onto the Plaintiffs while they slept and sucked their blood until they were gorged,” said the suit, which was filed by attorney Brian J. Virag of the firm Mybedbuglawyer Inc.

The couple reported the bed bugs to the ship’s staff and asked to be moved to a different stateroom, but the ship’s staff delayed taking action, the suit states.

Princess Cruises did not respond to a request for comment Thursday. In a statement posted by San Diego TV station NBC 7, Negin Kamali, the cruise line’s director of public relations, said, “We are very sorry to hear about Ms. Flores’ concerns. Princess Cruises is committed to following and often exceed stringent sanitation and health guidelines.”

Kamali also told the station that the cruise line’s room attendants are “highly trained to identify bed bugs” and that all staterooms “are thoroughly cleaned each month as a preventative measure.”

Because cabins are cleaned twice a day and linen is changed at the end of each cruise, “it would be highly unusual for the presence of bed bugs to go unnoticed for more than the length of one cruise,” Kamali told the station.

The couple is seeking more than $75,000 in damages.
